Thinking Positively: Success without Challenging Competition

Work is just like school – but instead of the heavy competition between classmates, you have to battle against everyone. This is the way you think if you are really competitive. But if you are someone who just wants to get the day finished and tasks completed – you are wise. But, at the end of the day, all of us want to achieve something – whether we are competitive or not.

We need not be desperate about success. We can be successful without having to deal with the competition like they are competition. What? How do we do this? It’s easy – we need to think positively and believe in ourselves. We don’t necessarily have to better everyone else to be promoted. We just have to constantly be better than what we were.

When we get the better of part of ourselves to shine, we can be of great help to others. We can be of great help to the company and we can set our goals better. When we see ourselves first, we see what we need to improve on – and not what others are doing so badly.

These are some things that we can do to greatly improve ourselves:

  1. Action please – We need to get active. No need to stare at the wall for 5 minutes and think about what we should do. Staring won’t help. Get active. If you can’t do anything about a problem, try cleaning your desk first, remove stress by doing something simple. This can enhance your thinking skills.
  2. List it down – You need to list down your tasks. This is like project management, only you are just doing the most basic of things. This also creates a guide. Remember to highlight the finished tasks. This makes a sense of accomplishment. Get a pen or open a test editor. Now!
  3. Get away from them – Get away from colleagues that are intriguing. Smart people talk about events and humor – not rumor. Listening to them takes away productive time. Listening to them puts more stress than work itself.
  4. Smart talk – Get involved in smart talk. This doesn’t really mean you have to talk to your boss. They have too much pride. It doesn’t have to be job related. Having smart conversations give you inspiration, away from desperation.
  5. Get humor in – Always have humor in the workplace. Get a little something in, even at meetings. Do not overdo it – you get to be the clown if you do. Have time to laugh.
  6. Get more for less – You need to strategize. Having to do things over and over again leaves its mark on you. Find a way to have a better process. Always challenge the current system – not the people in the system. Get more productive.
  7. Take breaks – This is your right. This is your privilege. This is human. This is your break time. It’s foolish to work on and on without breaks. You will become unproductive in the end. Breaks are designed to keep you at the optimum level.
  8. Read – You should read more. Get to your PC and read blogs about self-improvement. One article can’t describe it all. You also have to read about your job, how to handle it in the optimum level.
  9. Don’t challenge your competitors – Why challenge them? Your profession is not part of a race. Your company is not a league. Just get to your optimum level, do your thing. Stay away from the guys who think they are better than you. Once you compete with them, you get into a trap. You target them instead of success.
  10. Get social – Try not to impress anyone. Try to get to them with smart conversations and humor. Smile a lot. When you live free of the expectations, from yourself mostly, you begin to loosen up and be comfortable. This is when you see things clearly about what you really need to get done.

These are just a few things you can do for yourself. Yes, there is competition in the work place. But, to be successful, you need to find your sweet spot.

I would strongly suggest you improve on your communication skills. Communication is your bridge to the world. This is how you make people understand you. This is how you can generate more productivity with your colleagues. This is how you can take your competition with you, in one team. When you do that, you will be successful.
